BYD is set to make a dramatic move into the ultra-luxury segment by launching its newest electric sedan in the United Arab Emirates. Yangwang general manager Hu Xiaoqing confirmed this week that the vehicle will debut globally in the UAE rather than in China. The company has not yet announced a specific date for the event, but the choice of location signals a clear intent to target high-net-worth buyers in the Middle East before expanding elsewhere.

The upcoming model is poised to become the largest and most opulent electric car in BYD's history. Its design cues suggest a direct challenge to established luxury titans like Rolls-Royce, Bentley, and Mercedes-Maybach. This is a significant pivot for a manufacturer widely recognized for affordable options, such as the Seagull hatchback, which sells for under $10,000 in its home market.

Over the past few years, BYD has dramatically expanded its product range. The automaker now offers everything from entry-level electric vehicles to three-row flagship SUVs, pickup trucks, and electric supercars. To manage this breadth, the company operates through a complex structure that includes the main BYD Dynasty and Ocean families, alongside three distinct sub-brands: Denza, FangChengBao, and Yangwang.

Yangwang sits at the very top of this hierarchy. It serves as the primary showcase for the company's most advanced engineering. Previous models from this sub-brand have utilized BYD's quad-motor e4 platform, which generates 1,300 horsepower. They also feature the DiSus-X intelligent body control system, a technology that allows vehicles to perform dynamic maneuvers such as jumping and driving on three wheels.

Hu shared several images last month showing the new executive sedan undergoing testing. Although the vehicle was covered in camouflage, its silhouette appeared to mirror the dimensions of a Rolls-Royce Phantom or a Maybach S-Class. Local reports indicate the car measures approximately 5,500 mm, or 216 inches, in length. Zheng Yu, the executive general manager of Yangwang, stated that the vehicle will feature unprecedented disruptive technology, though he did not provide specific technical details.

Several technical inferences can be drawn from recent sightings. The sedan was photographed at a BYD Flash Charging station, which strongly suggests it will support megawatt flash charging capabilities. The vehicle also features rear-hinged coach doors, a design element new to the BYD lineup. Reports further indicate that this sedan will be the first model to utilize the company's solid-state battery technology.

Stella Li, executive vice president of BYD, told Carwow.es last month that the brand's first solid-state battery vehicle is expected to debut in 2027. The upcoming sedan is anticipated to make its official public debut this month. Industry rumors suggest the starting price will be in the range of 2 million yuan, which translates to approximately $300,000.

This pricing places the new model well above the current Yangwang offerings. The existing U7 electric sedan starts at 658,000 yuan, or $98,000. The lineup also includes the U8 and U8L plug-in hybrid luxury off-road SUVs and the U9 electric super-coupe. Currently, the extended U8L is the brand's most expensive mass-produced vehicle, with a starting price of 1.45 million yuan, or $217,000.
