Tara and Ben Wegdam opened their sixth Creme de la Creme store on Francis Street in Annapolis on Thursday. The new shop serves as the couple's second location within Anne Arundel County.

The Wegdams started the business in 2000 in Middleburg, Virginia. They have expanded their network steadily over the past 26 years. The Annapolis storefront is the most recent addition to their group of six businesses.

Ben Wegdam stated that the company seeks locations with high customer traffic and strong potential. He described downtown Annapolis as the perfect spot for that reason. Tara Wegdam noted that the area attracts both visitors and residents. This mix suits a store where shoppers personalize their living spaces. She also pointed out that no direct competitor was operating in the immediate area.

The couple manages all six locations with a centralized approach to merchandise and operations. Ben Wegdam said that managers from every store communicate weekly to share feedback and improve product arrangements. This regular contact helps the team identify what works in one location and apply it elsewhere. When a desirable location becomes available, the Wegdams move quickly to secure it.

The grand opening drew a mix of new customers and long-time fans. Tara Wegdam reported seeing patrons wearing Creme de la Creme apparel, one of the products the company sells. She noted that some customers had recently moved to the Annapolis area and were glad to find the store nearby.

The new store joins a wave of commercial growth in the region. The Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation reported that nearly 60 businesses either opened or expanded in May and June of 2026. The Wegdam store adds to the local inventory of home goods retailers.
