47,000 violent criminals and gang members were arrested by the FBI over the last 21 months. The agency released these figures on Wednesday, stating the total represents a 67% increase compared to the final 21 months of the Biden administration.

FBI Director Kash Patel attributed the surge in enforcement to close coordination with the Department of Justice and other law enforcement partners. He described the period as delivering the largest reduction in violent crime in United States history.

The bureau reported that arrests of child sex predators and human traffickers also increased. That specific category rose by 13% to just over 6,000 detainees.

Patel cited additional metrics to support the agency’s performance claims. He pointed to a 30% decline in the national murder rate and a 114% rise in arrests of violent crime suspects. The FBI also seized more than 4,600 kilograms of fentanyl. The agency stated this amount is sufficient to kill more than 350 million Americans.

High-profile fugitive captures also advanced during this window. Law enforcement agents apprehended 10 individuals from the FBI's Top Ten Most Wanted list. That count is 2.5 times higher than the number captured over the previous four years. Additionally, six fugitives were caught from a newly created Most Wanted Fraudsters list within its first four months.

Patel noted that the agency entered this period facing one of the highest threat environments in American history. He said the bureau responded by delivering results in the biggest way they ever have. He credited the progress to a president who backs the blue and an attorney general who relentlessly prosecutes criminals.

The data release follows a period of intense criticism from Republicans regarding the FBI's operations during the prior administration. Critics had alleged political bias and questioned how the bureau handled high-profile investigations.
