Google has begun pushing a major interface update to its Gemini app for Android. The change consolidates previously scattered configuration options into a single settings page. It also restructures the navigation drawer to prioritize recent chats. Because the update is delivered via server-side changes, users are receiving the new layout without needing to download a new version of the application from the Play Store.

The redesign follows a recent shift from the "Spark" feature to "Task." The latest move aligns the Android experience with updates that reached iOS, macOS, and web platforms last week. Those earlier updates launched alongside Gemini 4 Argon. Android users are now seeing the same structural changes arrive more broadly across the device base.

The most visible change in the side panel is the relocation of the search function to the top-right corner. "New chat" remains the primary entry in the list. The "Library" option has moved directly beneath "New chat." Previously, the Library sat near the bottom of the drawer. To prevent the navigation drawer from appearing overcrowded, the app now displays only five recent items initially. Tapping a "More" option expands the full list. For AI Ultra subscribers, the complete menu includes New chat, Library, Images, Scheduled, Daily brief, Customize, Students, Videos, and Gems.

The settings overhaul addresses fragmentation. Preferences were formerly split between the account menu and a separate "Gemini Settings" area. Google has now merged these into one page. The account menu retains a limited role, handling account switching, feedback, and help requests only. The new settings page opens with "Manage account" and "Usage limits." A "Preferences" section follows, listing Notifications, Personal Intelligence, Avatar, Task settings, Theme, Skills, Voice, Media, Device controls, Cart and orders, and Gemini Notebook. Theme is the only entry marked as new in this section.

Two additional sections complete the settings page. The "Data & privacy" section contains Import memory, Contact info from your devices, Gemini Apps Activity, Your public links, and the Privacy Help Hub. The "Get support" section lists Help, Report a problem, About, and Updates. The update also coincides with other recent developments, including Gemini Notebook becoming a Connected App. Free users are moving to "Auto" models as the app adds thinking levels. A new "Map" tool has also arrived, replacing the "@" shortcut with a "/" command.

The changes are rolling out to Android devices now. Users will notice the new top-right search icon and the condensed settings list immediately. The integration of the Notebook as a Connected App allows for deeper system integration. The shift to "Auto" models for free users simplifies the model selection process. The introduction of the "Map" tool provides a new way to access location-based features within the chat interface.
