The Shin Bet will assume direct command of security operations for Gadi Eisenkot on Sunday morning. The Yashar party confirmed that a private security company will protect the chairman under the specific instructions of Unit 730, the agency's elite domestic security division.
This arrangement follows months of negotiation regarding state protection for party heads. In August, Shin Bet chief David Zini ruled that Eisenkot did not meet the initial criteria for Unit 730 coverage. The decision shifted in September after the Advisory Committee for Personal Security reviewed new intelligence and threat assessments. The committee subsequently recommended that the Shin Bet oversee the leader's security detail.
Yashar officials told The Jerusalem Post in September that no security team had been assigned despite Zini's approval. The agency later outlined a broader set of measures for party leaders. These provisions include an intelligence support framework, authorization for private security teams to carry weapons, and regular coordination between the Shin Bet and hired guards. The agency also conducts periodic situation assessments to monitor the threat level.
The Ministerial Committee for Shin Bet Affairs granted Zini the authority to set these protocols. The power allows the chief to define security for leaders who hold no public office and lack other state protection entitlements. This authorization remains valid until the next Knesset is sworn in.
Not all petitioners have received immediate coverage. Yair Golan, chairman of The Democrats, requested protection based on a threat level he described as comparable to Eisenkot's. The Shin Bet has denied Golan immediate protection at this stage.
