Apple TV subscribers in the United States can now watch Formula 1 racing with Dolby Atmos audio. The upgrade began on Friday, October 23, and applies to the upcoming United States Grand Prix.
This marks the first time a Formula 1 race will be broadcast in this format. Apple and Dolby Laboratories announced the addition of spatial audio support earlier this month. The company stated that the new sound design aims to place viewers directly within the race environment. Audio elements will include team radio transmissions, commentary, engine noise, and pit lane activity.
Apple noted that combining Dolby Atmos with Dolby Vision visuals creates a more immersive viewing experience. The company described the pairing as delivering rich colors and lifelike clarity. The goal is to position fans at the center of the on-track action.
Practice 1 has already concluded for the weekend. Remaining sessions are scheduled for the next two days. Practice 2 is set for Friday, October 23, at 5 p.m. ET. On Saturday, October 24, Practice 3 begins at 1:30 p.m. ET. Qualifying follows at 5 p.m. ET on the same day. The main race takes place on Sunday, October 25, at 4 p.m. ET.
Apple is hosting a live screening of Sunday's race at its Domain NORTHSIDE store in Austin, Texas. The venue recently hosted Apple CEO John Ternus and retail chief Deirdre O'Brien on Friday. They attended the launch event for the iPhone Duo at the same location.
Apple has also updated Apple Maps for the event. The company expanded its Detailed City Experience feature to Austin. This update includes a specific map of the Circuit of The Americas. The map displays turn numbers, grandstand locations, and 3D landmarks to assist fans in navigating the venue.
The Apple TV service costs $14.99 per month. It is also available as part of the Apple One bundle. The platform streams various titles including Ted Lasso, Severance, The Studio, The Morning Show, Shrinking, and Silo.
