Apple's iPhone Duo is available to consumers, and the device's new features require specific hardware to function at full capacity. While the phone ships without a charger, users must purchase a compatible adapter to achieve the advertised 50 percent charge in 20 minutes. The device also supports the Apple Pencil for the first time, a capability that arrives with the iOS 27.2 update next week. Only the USB-C version of the stylus will work, and it is currently listed at $69, reduced from its original price of $79. Apple stated that the Duo's design draws on the proportions of a standard A-series paper notebook to facilitate note-taking and sketching on both the inner and outer displays.

Drivers face additional expenses to utilize the phone's larger screen for navigation. Tech site 9to5Mac suggests the ESR MagSafe Car Mount, which clips to an air vent and holds the device magnetically. The mount is priced at $19, down from $29. The site's writer pairs the phone with CarPlay, a setup that displays maps on the car's screen while the phone shows step-by-step directions in Apple Maps. They expect this configuration to be more effective on the Duo's expanded display area.

Protection for the foldable mechanism adds further cost. Third-party options include the SPIDERCASE Magnetic Case, which features a built-in stand and screen protector for $29. Spigen offers the Ultra Hybrid Pro, a clear MagSafe-compatible case, at $39. Apple's own lineup includes the iPhone Duo Folio with Kickstand at $129 and the iPhone Duo Case at $79. The Folio is the most expensive accessory in the recommended list, costing more than several flagship smartphones from other manufacturers.

The iPhone Duo also modifies StandBy mode, allowing the phone to display various views when upright without charging. Two of these views, Home Camera and Home Modular, provide access to smart home accessories. For users who want to monitor security cameras, 9to5Mac recommends the Aqara G100 2K camera at $39 and the eufy 4K camera at $69. As a general recommendation for anyone without recent earbuds, the site lists the AirPods Pro 3 at $199, down from $249, noting the noise cancellation features help with focus during work hours.

These recommendations cover the primary hardware needs for early adopters. The Apple Pencil support is delayed until the next iOS update, meaning users cannot use the stylus immediately upon unboxing the phone. The charging adapter is not included in the box, consistent with Apple's recent practices, and requires a separate purchase to unlock fast charging speeds. The combination of the stylus, a 40W to 100W charger, and a car mount places the initial accessory investment for a fully equipped user at approximately $117 to $137, before considering cases or earbuds.

Apple has not announced a bundle that includes these items with the phone. The pricing for the Apple Pencil and the 40W Dynamic Power Adapter reflects current discounts noted by 9to5Mac. The site closed its guide by asking readers to share which accessories they plan to purchase for the new foldable device.
