The Los Angeles Kings defeated the New York Rangers, 6-3, on Monday night at Madison Square Garden, ending New York’s six-game home winning streak.
The Kings opened the scoring just 1 minute and 15 seconds into the game on their first shot. Taylor Ward finished a breakaway pass from Drew Doughty to put Los Angeles ahead 1-0.
Brandt Clarke extended the lead to 2-0 at 4:52 of the first period. Clarke tipped in a rebound off a slap shot by Joel Armia. Doughty added a third goal for the Kings with a one-timer from the left point at 4:30, giving Los Angeles a 3-0 lead before the first intermission.
New York pulled goaltender James Reimer after one period. Reimer allowed three goals on eight shots in his debut for the Rangers. He had played one previous game this fall, recording a 35-save shutout in the American Hockey League on Saturday before signing an NHL contract for the remainder of the season.
Artemi Panarin scored a power-play goal 90 seconds into the second period. His shot went off goaltender Dylan Garand, who replaced Reimer. Mikey Anderson added another goal later in the second period to make the score 5-1.
J.T. Miller scored for the Rangers when a slap shot by Tye Kartye deflected off his skate past Darcy Kuemper. Adam Fox cut the deficit to 5-2 on the power play with 6:55 remaining in the second period. Kartye scored again at 16:08 of the third period to bring New York within two.
Joel Edmundson scored into an empty net for his first goal of the season to make the final score 6-3. Darcy Kuemper made 23 saves for the Kings, while Garand stopped 15 of 17 shots in the second and third periods.
Doughty recorded his first goal in 25 regular-season games and his first three-point game since February 22, 2025. Twelve different Kings skaters recorded points in the victory. The win was the third in the Kings’ last four games and their first road win of the season.
New York coach Peter Laviolette said the Kings played the game fast and made good decisions. The Kings are 4-1 on their current five-game road trip. They travel to Chicago on Tuesday at 5 p.m. PT to play their final game of the trip.
